This fresh green cilantro flavored chutney is a favorite Indian accompaniment for Crispy Samosas, Pani Puri, Bhaji, and more. It is a tasty spread for a tea sandwich and can be stored in the fridge for a week.

Ingredients

  • 1 green serrano chili
  • 1 bunch cilantro
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 small piece ginger (1 inch)
  • 1 small shallot
  • 1/2 t. sea salt
  • 1-2 t. lemon juice
  • 1/2 t. golden balsamic vinegar
  • 1 T. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 – 1/2 c. water
  • 1/4 t. garam masala powder or cumin powder

Directions

  1. 1. De-seed 1 green chili and cut it up.
  2. 2. Chop the stems off the bunch of cilantro
  3. 3. Wash the cilantro leaves and shake off excess water.
  4. 4. Peel and chop 1 clove garlic.
  5. 5. Peel and chop 1 small piece ginger.
  6. 6. Peel and chop 1 small shallot.
  7. 7. Add all of the above ingredients into a mixing cup or blender.
  8. 8. Add 1/2 t. sea salt, 1-2 t. lemon juice, 1/2 t. golden balsamic vinegar, 1 T. extra virgin olive oil, 1/4 c. water and 1/4 t. garam masala powder to the mixing cup or blender.
  9. 9. Pulse blender or immersion stick blender until you have a smooth paste.
  10. 10. Add water to thin it a bit and pulse.
  11. 11. Add salt and lemon juice to taste.
  12. 12. Refrigerate until required.
  13. 13. Serve with Samosa and tamarind chutney or as a tea sandwich spread.

Tips

  • Add water slowly as you grind the paste.
